About the Department

The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the academic year 2005-2006 and currently provides an undergraduate program in Mechanical and Automation Engineering. Our curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in the fundamental principles of mechanical engineering, while also incorporating the latest advancements in automation and robotics. Through a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory work, and practical projects, our students gain a comprehensive understanding of the discipline and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.Our distinguished faculty members bring a wealth of expertise and industry experience to the classroom. Their research interests span a wide range of areas, including robotics, control systems, energy systems, materials engineering, and more. Our students have access to cutting-edge equipment, such as 3D printers, CNC machines, robotic workstations, and advanced simulation software, enabling them to turn theoretical knowledge into practical applications. We also encourage our students to engage in industry internships, research projects, and collaborations with leading organizations, providing them with real-world exposure and enhancing their employability.

Our students regularly participate in national and international competitions, showcasing their talent and representing the department with pride. Our department maintains strong ties with industry partners, ensuring that our graduates possess the skills and knowledge demanded by the job market.

L. NAFEEZ AHMED, M.E., (Ph.D) is Assistant professor and Head, Department of Mechanical and Automation engineering, Gojan school of business and technology. He obtained his B.E degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai in the year of 2009, M.E in Manufacturing Engineering from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore in the year 2011, and pursuing his Ph.D in welding at Anna University. He has been in teaching profession for the past 12 years. His areas of interest include Welding, Additive manufacturing, 3D printing and Mechanical Design (CAD). He has published more than 10 publications in international conferences and journals.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1: Graduates will have sound knowledge in the fundamentals of engineering to deliver the skills required in core areas and allied fields.
PEO2: Graduates will be successful placement and career in industries besides, pursuing higher studies.
PEO3: Graduates will be able to exhibit skills like entrepreneurial, ethical, communication, team work and lifelong learning in their profession.

Program Outcomes (POs)

1. Engineering Knowledge: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

 

2. Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.


3. Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.

 

4. Conduct investigations of complex problems using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.

 

5. Modern Tool Usage: Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

 

6. The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice.

 

7. Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts and demonstrate knowledge of and need for sustainable development.

 

8. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.

 

9. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
